How to prepare your DVA claim with Veterans Compass
A step-by-step walkthrough of the claim preparation process — from uploading your first document to sharing your report.
Step 1 — Create your claim
Start by clicking "New claim" in the sidebar. Either type your condition name to instantly see the matching Statement of Principles, or upload your medical documents and let the AI identify your condition for you.
Step 2 — Upload your evidence
Upload your medical records, specialist reports, GP notes, imaging results, and service documents. Supported formats: PDF, DOCX, JPG, PNG up to 20MB. Free tier includes 3 documents — upgrade for unlimited.
Step 3 — Analyse your documents
Click "Analyse" on each document. The AI will extract dates, diagnoses, symptoms, treatments, providers, and service exposures automatically.
Step 4 — Review your condition details
Go to the Condition details tab. Confirm your condition name and onset date. The app will match your condition to the relevant RMA Statement of Principles and show you exactly what your claim needs to prove.
Step 5 — Check your evidence timeline
The Evidence Timeline tab shows every extracted fact in chronological order — from first symptoms through diagnosis and treatment. This becomes the backbone of your claim narrative.
Step 6 — Review your readiness report
The Report tab shows your claim readiness score, gaps in your evidence, what you have on file, and recommended next steps. Upgrade to generate your full Claim Preparation Report PDF — a structured summary ready to share with your advocate or DVA delegate.
Step 7 — Lodge your claim
Take your Claim Preparation Report to your ESO advocate or DVA-accredited representative who can lodge on your behalf — or lodge directly via MyGov if you prefer to manage the process yourself. Veterans Compass prepares your evidence. How you lodge is your choice.
Organise Your Claim Properly
Many veterans already have the evidence — the challenge is organising years of records into something structured and manageable.
